The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #18 by Dan!

It was an interesting light(er) week, so I’ll probably frustrate some people with my picks.  But that just means you’re reading, and we know I only do this for a reaction… Let’s do this! My Top 5 (The 5 Best Comics of the Week) Punishermax #11 Writer: Jason Aaron Artist: Steve Dillon The more I read this, the more angry I am at Ultimate Avengers for delaying this story art.  Steve Dillon is a comic genius, and is one of (if not THE) best artists Marvel of DC has to offer.  Add to that that Jason Aaron is transferring his … Continue reading

Fresh Eyes on Old Books #17 by Dan!

It’s Sunday folks, so it’s time for more of those reviews you love to read!  Let’s do this! Avengers #100 from 1972 It’s an anniversary issue, and they go with a one-shot story with style.  Everybody on the cover shows up and some others make appearances as well.  It’s a pretty ridiculous issue, with Roy Thomas cramming as many people and backstory and fighting in it as humanly possible.  It was a fun read, with Thomas giving all the characters a distinct voice.  Barry Windsor-Smith draws the hell out of it.  In this story, all the Avengers (current and former) … Continue reading

The Latest and Mostly Greatest #17 by Dan!

I’m writing these on a Friday, whoa! Stuff on time! Let’s do this! My Top 5 (The 5 Best Comics of the Week) Amazing Spider-Man #655 Writer: Dan Slott Artist: Marcos Martin Yup, I’m on the bandwagon for this issue. It’s been going around the “internets” (as dear Dubya once said) that this is some big special fantastic issue, and holy crap it is.  Look, all you need to know is that Dan Slott really loves writing Spider-Man and Marcos Martin draws the hell out of it.  With the recent death of J. Jonah Jameson’s wife, this is a first … Continue reading

Phil’s Reviews — Stuff I Bought #189

Knights of the Dinner Table #170 — Creators: Jolly Blackburn, Steve Johansson, David Kenzer and Brian Jelke I have nothing new to say about this comic, except that I still like it — but if you didn’t see Community this week, go to your cable box and its “On Demand” channel, and see it right now: the gang play Advanced D&D, with Abed as DM and Pierce as scorned, gleeful personification of evil (Chevy Chase does his best work of the series), and it’s… just perfect; you can tell the creators spent a lot of their high school time with twenty-sided … Continue reading

The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #15 by Dan!

All right folks!  It was a seriously huge week, so let’s get down to business! My Top 5 (The 5 Best Comics of the Week) Fantastic Four #587 Writer: Jonathan Hickman, Artist: Steve Epting I am shocked.  I really have not cared about the Hickman FF run at all.  I found it boring, pretentious and convoluted.  Then the last six pages of this issue happened.  I know that you’ve probably all heard about the death, but I don’t feel like spoiling it.  Just know that it was in a super bad-ass take no prisoners, kicking and screaming kinda way, adding … Continue reading
