The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #99 by Dan!

So here we are. If some of you haven’t heard, I’m leaving the comic book store for greener “full-time job” pastures (not really that much greener if you ask me. My last day is this Saturday, June 7th, so stop on by to tell me how much you’ve disliked all my reviews all these years!) Barring some aggressive boredom changing my mind, this will be the last edition of the Latest and (Mostly) Greatest. It’s been an interesting process getting used to writing about comics every other week, and I hope that some of you at least slightly enjoyed it. … Continue reading

The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #98 by Dan!

All right folks, I’m back! There’s a lot of different things and a lot of different opinions about them. Let’s do this! Batman Eternal #6 Writer: Ray Fawkes Artist: Tervor McCarthy Futures End #2 Writer: Various Artist: Jesus Merin. Let’s talk about DC weeklies, shall we? Always providing varying degrees of content, DC loves to see how many times they can get you to spend $2.99 a week. But are they any good? All right folks, we’re back in action. Not a bad week for comics, but only a few that really stood out. Let’s do this! Elektra #1 Writer: W. Haden Blackman Artist: Mike Del Mundo The first few pages of this issue threw me off. It was a fair amount of talking, reminding the reader about just who Elektra was and what had come before. The art style is pretty jarring. But once you actually focus and see that every panel of every page is telling a story, you realize that this book is shockingly well put together. In a similar … Continue reading

The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #96 by Dan!

All right folks, while it was a lighter week, there’s still plenty of good stuff to check out this time around. Let’s do this! She-Hulk #3 Writer: Charles Soule Artist: Javier Pulido I hate feeling like I have to take a bet on when Pulido bails on this book, but I know it’s coming soon. But that’s a conversation for later; right now we should just enjoy this book for what it is. Embracing the recent success of Hawkeye and Daredevil, this book helps bring the street level lawyer She-Hulk into a more realistic setting. It helps that Soule writes … Continue reading

The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #95 by Dan!

All right folks, it’s a lighter week so we won’t have a lot to talk about. But there’s still plenty of great stuff out there, so let’s do this! Daredevil #1 Writer: Mark Waid Artist: Chris Samnee Waid and Samnee ended their seminal run on Daredevil by revealing his identity and moving him to California. So now Waid and Samnee are back with an all-new location a possibly new set of characters and a lot of space to just roam. And roam they do. This issue acts as set-up (including a quick origin that is presented beautifully), Daredevil manages to … Continue reading
