It Came From the Back Room #37

Standard recap: I’m slowly going through AABC’s one-million-plus back-issue room, restocking the boxes on the sales floor and pulling stuff to sell as discount/overstock/special items (these are featured at the discount racks at the west end of the store for two weeks after each post, and then go to the discount racks on the east end of the store for a few weeks, and then disappear into our warehouses, so get them while you can). I’m going through the alphabet backwards (don’t ask), and at my speed (especially with the school semester in full gear), this amounts to a two-year … Continue reading

Dark Horse Presents #6 — Creators: Peter Hogan/Steve Parkhouse;  Carla Speed McNeil; Evan Dorkin/Jill Thompson;  Fabio Moon;  Neal Adams;  Howard Chaykin;  Andi Watson As always, this anthology delivers considerable quality for its $8 price, with stand-alone stories from Watson (Skeleton Key), Moon, and Dorkin/Thompson (their stellar Beasts of Burden) supply the meat, while chapters of ongoing serials from the others provide the side dishes — ten stories in all, 80 high-gloss pages of squarebound goodness, making this the Thanksgiving treat of the week. Fantastic Four #600 — Writer: Jonathan Hickman;  Art:  Steve Epting/Rick Magyar;  Carmine di Giandomenico;  Ming Doyle;  Leinil … Continue reading

It Came From the Back Room #22

Standard recap: I’m slowly going through AABC’s one-million-plus back-issue room, restocking the boxes on the sales floor and pulling stuff to sell as discount/overstock/special items. I’m going through the alphabet backwards (don’t ask), and at my speed, this amounts to a two-year project. This week, we’re breaking the regular alphabetical pattern, and time-traveling back to stuff I pulled a year ago (before I started doing these writeups). Why? Because it’s a comic character who’s hot right now, with a movie, a crossover event miniseries, and a new number-one issue all calling attention to him: The Mighty Thor We can pass … Continue reading

It Came From the Back Room #21

Standard recap: I’m slowly going through AABC’s one-million-plus back-issue room, restocking the boxes on the sales floor and pulling stuff to sell as discount/overstock/special items. I’m going through the alphabet backwards (don’t ask), and at my speed, this amounts to a two-year project. This week, we’re continuing the letter “I,” and featuring the second half of The Invincible Iron Man. In our last episode, we got up to the end of Shellhead’s first run, which ended with issue #332, in 1996. If you’d like to see some high-end offerings of those early issues, check our stock here, here, here and … Continue reading

The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #18 by Dan!

It was an interesting light(er) week, so I’ll probably frustrate some people with my picks.  But that just means you’re reading, and we know I only do this for a reaction… Let’s do this! My Top 5 (The 5 Best Comics of the Week) Punishermax #11 Writer: Jason Aaron Artist: Steve Dillon The more I read this, the more angry I am at Ultimate Avengers for delaying this story art.  Steve Dillon is a comic genius, and is one of (if not THE) best artists Marvel of DC has to offer.  Add to that that Jason Aaron is transferring his … Continue reading
