Indestructible Hulk 6

And we’re back! It was a light week here for comics, but some of these titles are definitely worth talking about. Let’s do this! Detective Comics Writers: John Layman & James Tynion IV Artists: Jay Fabok, Andy Clarke, Henrik Jonsson, Mikel Janin and Jason Masters All right, so while not actually being the 900th issue of Detective Comics (but we all totally know it is) this issue talks about “the 900″, a block in Gotham City that just so happens to get infected by Man-Bat serum and everything goes crazy in Gotham. It’s a surprisingly good issue, and that’s even … Continue reading

Saga 11

All right folks, we’re here, let’s do this! Saga #11 Writer: Brian K Vaughan Artist: Fiona Staples So Saga is pretty awesome, but you knew that already, right? After last issue’s… maybe, upsetting character kill, this issue kicks you in the gut just as hard. Vaughan, as always, makes the reader care about his characters, to the point where the sci-fi weirdness is almost irrelevant. This is the kind of comic that’s accessible to anyone, it’s just really good stuff. Staples art style is something you have to get used to, but once you do, every little piece of effort … Continue reading

Thunderbolts 1

Ya’ know… only 170 more of these and I’ll catch up to Phil… sigh. Let’s do this! Thunderbolts #1 Writer: Daniel Way Artist: Steve Dillon This introduction to the all-new Thunderbolts is your traditional team-building first issue, but laid out in a different way. The Punisher is tied up with a collection of mobsters ready to close in, as General Ross gives him a very lopsided ultimatum. There’s info about every single character put into place in a pretty violent way, and I can only imagine the dark twisted pieces of this comic will not disappoint. It’s like the early … Continue reading

deadpool 1

All right folks, it’s a big week with lots of things worth noting, so why not check out some of the best (and possibly worst) of the week. Let’s do this! Deadpool #1 Writers: Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan Artist: Tony Moore This is a book full of political assassination jokes; do you need to know anything else? You do? Oh…Well, alt-comedian Posehn’s dark comedy style is clearly injected into this piece and that makes it surprisingly hilarious. Where Daniel Way was relying on the multiple narrators in Deadpool’s head to crack all the jokes, Posehn and Duggan put them … Continue reading

Hulk 12

Holy guacamole… I’m back! Weird scheduling gave Phil the best shipping week in a while last week, and what do I get? Well, let’s just find out! Bulletproof Coffin: Disinterred #6 Writer: David Hine Artist: Shaky Kane Well, this was a thing. I decided to look up the word disinterred, and got the phrase “to bring from obscurity into view” and ya know what? I’ll accept that. This book has been a plethora of strange stories that don’t even remotely tie together. Individual issues that pretend to be a cohesive mini-series based almost entirely in the world of the strange. … Continue reading
