Phil’s Reviews — Stuff I Bought #233

Avengers Vs X-Men #12 (of 12) — Writer: Jason Aaron;  Pencils: Adam Kubert;  Inks: John Dell with Mark Morales and Adam Kubert This may not be the best book of the week, but it’s the best seller, and it’s been surprisingly good — partly because the last few Marvel events, especially Fear Itself, lowered expectations considerably. Aaron is a good choice for writer — he doesn’t have some of the stylistic tics in dialogue of a Bendis or a Fraction, so he doesn’t call attention to his writing, and lets the art and action speak for itself, while Kubert holds … Continue reading

What if, having gotten tired of destroying entire timelines, you realized that just killing the Hitler of each one — before he took power and became “Hitler” — would work instead? What if, having killed a bunch of those alternate-timeline young Hitlers (who, after all, hadn’t done anything crazy or wrong yet, and were mostly just creative-but-failed artists scuffling to get by), you started … Continue reading

The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #13 By Dan!

The last reviews of the New Year! Don’t forget to come to the sale!  Heck, why are you even reading this, go to the sale now! My Top Five (The Five Best Comics of the Week) Flash #8 Writer: Geoff Johns Artist: Scott Kolins Kolins is completely in his element whenever he does a Rogue profile, as can be seen in this issue.  Dealing with how the Reverse Flash came to be, Kolins is able to make every word that Johns puts on the page really come to life.  The story itself is bizarre, and sounds like an idea that … Continue reading
