It Came From the Back Room #27

Standard recap: I’m slowly going through AABC’s one-million-plus back-issue room, restocking the boxes on the sales floor and pulling stuff to sell as discount/overstock/special items. I’m going through the alphabet backwards (don’t ask), and at my speed, this amounts to a two-year project. This week, two titles are featured on the discount racks, one as part of the normal “G” sequence and one as a special. Let’s take that one first: Captain America These actually got put out a few weeks ago, but with the movie finally appearing this is a good time to cover them. They’re on the cover-price … Continue reading

Phil’s Reviews: Stuff I Bought #192

Bad Dog #4 — Writer: Joe Kelly; Art: Lucia Diego This hasn’t been out for awhile, but Kelly’s tale of a werewolf bounty hunter cursed by past sins and existential angst (but, in the best hard-boiled detective tradition, still determined to do the right thing) is worth waiting for. This issue, Lou and his partner, the cheerfully scatological, sexually deviant but religiously fanatic midget Wendell, get their Hunter S. The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #13 By Dan!

The last reviews of the New Year! Don’t forget to come to the sale! Heck, why are you even reading this, go to the sale now! My Top Five (The Five Best Comics of the Week) Flash #8 Writer: Geoff Johns Artist: Scott Kolins Kolins is completely in his element whenever he does a Rogue profile, as can be seen in this issue. Dealing with how the Reverse Flash came to be, Kolins is able to make every word that Johns puts on the page really come to life. The story itself is bizarre, and sounds like an idea that … Continue reading

It Came From the Back Room #9

Standard recap: I’m slowly going through AABC’s one-million-plus back-issue room, restocking the boxes on the sales floor and pulling stuff to sell as discount/overstock/special items. I’m going through the alphabet backwards (don’t ask), and at my speed (especially with the school year now in full gear), this amounts to a two-year project. I’m currently on the Marvel “M” stuff, and here are some of the titles I’ve been encountering: Marvel Tales: This, of course, is the Spider-Man reprint book, and as such offers a cheap alternative to otherwise-expensive back issues. That sales point is less critical today (in our brave … Continue reading
