Busy week, so I’m putting this together nice and quick for you guys.  Let’s do this! PunisherMax #21 Writer: Jason Aaron Artist: Steve Dillon Holy Moses. This is the penultimate issue of this title and everything starts to go bang bang bang! Phil and I had a discussion determining how this fit into any kind of continuity and I think I finally put it together. This is acting as the end of everything from the Garth Ennis MAX run. That’s why there’s a random appearance by Barracuda, and that’s why Aaron can get away with killing the S$^% out of … Continue reading

Phil’s Reviews: Stuff I Bought #209

Rachel Rising #3 — Writer/Artist: Terry Moore We’re still in “set up the mystery” mode, as the title character, having clawed her way out of a shallow grave, exhibits spooky precog powers and watches bad things happen to other people. There’s some kind of possession thing going on, and it’s all very well staged, and drawn very prettily too. Echo, Moore’s last effort, was remarkably well thought out, so I trust that the eventual explanation here will be a lot of fun, and involve a lot of action. With only four issues so far, readers still have time to get in … Continue reading

Fresh Eyes on Old Books #34 by Dan!

GL40b

And we’re back! I’m taking a break from the bizarre-ness of the Cardinals game (we all know they’re going to lose) to bring you this new round of comics reviews. Let’s do this! Green Lantern #40 from 1965 So this is one of the first crossovers between Earth 1 and Earth 2. It’s… interesting. This gives an entire origin to the Guardians that involves a character named Krona. They basically punished Krona for trying to figure out where they came from. Basically, they banished him from existence for trying to learn about history. The Guardians have always been a bunch … Continue reading

incredible-hulk-1-2011-marvel-comic-book-26-10-12630-p

All right folks, here comes the last round of #2′s hitting the market. The Professor is claiming that he “doesn’t mean” to write 2,000 words about every one of these, but we all know he’s just screwing with me. On to the books! Incredible Hulk #1 Writer: Jason Aaron Artist: Marc Silvestri: I’m not a Hulk fan, I’m not a Silvestri fan, and Aaron is hit-or-miss. Here? It’s a miss. There’s nothing to draw me in, nothing fun and it’s not an issue I thought was worth anything at all. Wolverine and the X-men #1 Writer: Jason Aaron Artist: Chris … Continue reading

The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #33 by Dan!

So we’re back in business, and now we’re taking on the number twos, which sounds weird to me, but I’m also a 12-year-old, so that makes it funnier. Before attacking the DC relaunch, we’re actually gunna hit up some other comics, including more #1′s, that are worth noting this week. Let’s do this! Legion of Monster #1 Writer: Dennis Hopeless Artist: Juan Doe I don’t know why I love this book. To put it simply, it’s a team-up monster comic that’s absolutely hilarious. It’s in the style of things like N.E.X.T.W.A.V.E. and it’s damn good, especially for a book with … Continue reading
