The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #22
So it’s almost Free Comic Book Day. Are you prepared? Are you SURE? Well, here’s some reviews to settle you down before the brouhaha. My Top 5 (The 5 Best Comics of The Week) Moon Knight #1 Writer: Brian Michael Bendis Artist: Alex Maleev So here’s the deal. I saw this and went “Wow! Maleev actually isn’t photo-referencing! This looks hand-drawn, but it doesn’t look quite right.” Then a very aware customer (I’m lookin’ at you Jeff) says “You know, it’s a tribute style to Bill Sienkiewicz” and my mind was blown. This book is absolutely great. And the new … Continue reading

It’s been twenty of these; have I become any better? Read on to find out! My Top 5 (The 5 Best Comics of the Week) Axe Cop #2 Writer: Malachai Nicolle Artist: Ethan Nicolle Written by a six-year-old and drawn by his thirty-year-old brother! This comic is just as ridiculously rad as you think it would be. There is literally, vikings fighting baseball players (a much more even fight than you’d think), The people of the Uni-Smart World had their unicorn horns covered so they no longer had “magic unicorn powers.” Originally a webcomic, this has translated almost perfectly to … Continue reading

This was a shortened week, so forgive me for this rush. Just means I’ll be cramming in sarcasm by the boatload! My Top Five (The Five Best Comics of the Week) Jonah Hex #62 Writers: Justin Gray Jimmy Palmiotti Artist: Eduardo Risso This issue was so very pretty. Risso has his distinct style that just worked perfectly for this issue. It’s amazing to me that it’s taken 62 issues for him to get involved in the Hex mythos. Hell, it’s amazing that this title has lasted 62 issues. But it’s been all about the writing team. Gray and Palmiotti have … Continue reading

It’s been a long week Ladies and Gentlemen, but comics make everything better! My Top Five (The Five Best Comics of the Week) The Boys #47 Writer: Garth Ennis Artist: Russ Braun Dear god. Everything between Annie and Hughie comes to a head this issue, and we as readers get a special treat. Ennis is always at his strongest with character development, and it’s easy to forget that when he uses fart jokes all the time to hide it. The conversations feel completely accurate and real (except I haven’t heard anyone say “the c-word” that much) and it’s clearly helped … Continue reading
