The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #32

All right folks, it’s officially the last week of the DC 52 relaunch. So I swear it’s the last time Phil and I will ramble on about new DC comics (Well, I’ll make that promise. Ya never really know with the Professor). Just like two weeks ago, I’ll give quick sentences about other important stuff, then do the big 13 releases of the week. Let’s do this! Kick-Ass 2 #4 Writer: Mark Millar Artist: John Romita Jr.: Now with more gang-rape! This comic is getting really hardcore really quick. It’s intense! Brilliant #1 Writer: Brian Michael Bendis Artist: Mark Bagley: … Continue reading

It Came From the Back Room #31

Standard recap: I’m slowly going through AABC’s one-million-plus back-issue room, restocking the boxes on the sales floor and pulling stuff to sell as discount/overstock/special items. I’m going through the alphabet backwards (don’t ask), and at my speed (especially with the school semester in full gear), this amounts to a two-year project.  This week, the focus continues to be on the letter “F,” and on discount comics featuring the Fastest Man Alive: The Flash Volume One Discounted issues from Volume One of the comic don’t come up a lot here — there are a few dozen lower-condition books below issue #300, … Continue reading

I’m going through the alphabet backwards (don’t ask), and at my speed, this amounts to a two-year project. Something different this week: I’m working on the letter “F” now — specifically, back issues of Flash — but I’ll cover the discount stuff from that in my next posting, once it’s all finished and available on the cover price racks. Instead, since it turned out that we had so many cool (and key) Silver Age issues of … Continue reading

Phil’s Reviews: Stuff I Bought #195

Hate Annual #9 — Creator: Peter Bagge This doesn’t come out that often, but it’s always a pleasure to read, and a comfort to know that Bagge is still out there, chronicling the continuing adventures of Buddy and Lisa and their respective families (and that they’re all just as screwed-up and oddly compelling as always). Unlike a few of the recent issues, this one focuses almost all of its time on the key characters, making it even more of a find; as a link to the best of the ’80s and ’90s indy scene, and a reminder of just how … Continue reading
