The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #31

So I’m stealing Phils idea and going to town on these new DC books. First, I’ll give you a quick rundown of other important stuff, then I’ll give you a ranking of each of the 13 (dear God…) titles that came out this week. Black Panther #523 Writer: David Liss Artist: Francesco Francavilla: Still awesome, and pretty. Daredevil #3 Writer: Mark Waid Artist: Paolo Rivera: Still awesome, but I want more Marcos Martin! Criminal #4 Writer: Ed Brubaker Artist: Sean Phillips: Still awesome, end of the mini-series. Always worth it. PunisherMax #17 Writer: Jason Aaron Artist: Steve Dillon: Still awesome, … Continue reading

Fresh Eyes on Old Books #22

Well folks, we’ve survived another Free Comic Book Day.  Did you make it in?  If so, good for you, if not, what did you really have to do that was so much better?  Anyway, I’m still exhausted, but because I love you guys, you’ll still get my post.  Let’s do this! Superboy #54 from 1957 So, Superboy’s suit is made out of some kind of fancy synthetic fiber that protects him from harm, and a scientist gets hold of it and sells it to his friends so they can pull heists whenever they want.  One guy, no joke, robs a … Continue reading

The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #18 by Dan!

It was an interesting light(er) week, so I’ll probably frustrate some people with my picks.  But that just means you’re reading, and we know I only do this for a reaction… Let’s do this! My Top 5 (The 5 Best Comics of the Week) Punishermax #11 Writer: Jason Aaron Artist: Steve Dillon The more I read this, the more angry I am at Ultimate Avengers for delaying this story art.  Steve Dillon is a comic genius, and is one of (if not THE) best artists Marvel of DC has to offer.  Add to that that Jason Aaron is transferring his … Continue reading

It Came From the Back Room #13

Standard recap: I’m slowly going through AABC’s one-million-plus back-issue room, restocking the boxes on the sales floor and pulling stuff to sell as discount/overstock/special items. I’m going through the alphabet backwards (don’t ask), and at my speed (even with school on holiday break right now), this amounts to a two-year project. This week, I’m on the letter “L.” As it turns out, there are no Marvel “L” regular series, so it’s all indy and DC titles for the time being. Here’s what’s new out on the discount racks: Legion of Super-Heroes: Yes, it’s actually only one title, but since it’s … Continue reading

The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #9 by Dan!

Oh man,  have plenty of other things I could be doing, but here I am writing a blog for you.  You owe me! Let’s do this! My Top Five (The Five Best comics of the Week) Amazing Spider-Man #647 Writer/Artist: Various This is one of the rare occasions where a $4.99 price tag actually makes sense.  This comic is huge, wrapping up all the pieces of Brand New Day, and setting everything up for the next set of arcs.  As it has been for months, this Spidey issue is a lot of fun.  It gives a lot of different writer … Continue reading
