It Came From the Back Room #43

Standard recap: I’m slowly going through AABC’s one-million-plus back-issue room, restocking the boxes on the sales floor and pulling stuff to sell as discount/overstock/special items (these are featured at the discount racks at the west end of the store for a couple of weeks after each post, and then go to the discount racks on the east end of the store for a few weeks, and then disappear into our warehouses, so get them while you can). I’m going through the alphabet backwards (don’t ask), and at my speed (especially with the school semester in full gear), this amounts to … Continue reading

Ghost Rider #10 from 1974 Ghost Rider is just really, really weird. The nice thing about old school Marvel was that they were honest. This issue is completely a fill-in guest starring the Hulk, and they blatantly announce it for everyone to see. ANYway… There’s a ton of Ghost Rider angst with Johnny Blaze desperately not wanting to be the title of this comic, and it’s … Continue reading

Fresh Eyes on Old Books #29

All right folks, I’m taking a break from all my excessive TV watching to bring you my latest round of read-ups. Here it comes folks… let’s do this! Doctor Strange #172 from 1968 It’s Eternity vs Dormammu in a pretty ridiculously sweet issue of Dr. Strange. And holy crap is this thing pretty! What’s most important about Dr. Strange comics is how the astral word is presented, and it’s clear that Gene Colan always had a solid ability to show fight scenes, design characters, and make things interesting. It’s without a doubt one of the prettiest comics I’ve read while … Continue reading
