The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #50 by Dan!

Did I actually take last week off? Yes, but it wasn’t much of a break while working the Phoenix Comics Con…but we’ve survived! So it’s on to reviews. Let’s do this! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #10 Writer: Tom Waltz Artist: Dan Duncan Good news everyone! This series, which basically rebooted itself around the same time as the New DC 52, has stayed consistently strong and fantastic for its almost full-year run of comics! I’ve been reading the Mirage Studios version of these comics and it’s essentially rehashing the same steps that these comics hit, but bringing them to a new … Continue reading

It Came From the Back Room #43

Standard recap: I’m slowly going through AABC’s one-million-plus back-issue room, restocking the boxes on the sales floor and pulling stuff to sell as discount/overstock/special items (these are featured at the discount racks at the west end of the store for a couple of weeks after each post, and then go to the discount racks on the east end of the store for a few weeks, and then disappear into our warehouses, so get them while you can). I’m going through the alphabet backwards (don’t ask), and at my speed (especially with the school semester in full gear), this amounts to … Continue reading

Fresh Eyes on Old Books #36

And we’re back again. I’ve suffered heartbreak this week at the hands of ASU football, and before the Cardinals stomp what’s left of my soul, I’m going to review some comics. Let’s do this! Ghost Rider #10 from 1974 Ghost Rider is just really, really weird. The nice thing about old school Marvel was that they were honest. This issue is completely a fill-in guest starring the Hulk, and they blatantly announce it for everyone to see.  ANYway… There’s a ton of Ghost Rider angst with Johnny Blaze desperately not wanting to be the title of this comic, and it’s … Continue reading

The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #36 by Dan!

Back again! Now that Phil’s stopped reviewing every DC title I’m gunna take his lead and go back to the regular amount of laziness. Let’s do this! Batman #3 Writer: Scott Snyder Artist: Greg Capullo So Batman has been a surprise. I knew coming from Detective that Snyder had a grip on the Bat-family, but his first real work with Bruce as Batman has been amazing. What’s really been the surprise of the whole thing is Capullo. I’m gunna be totally honest here, his work on Haunt was dreadful, but I think that’s because he had Todd McFarlane inking him … Continue reading

The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #34 by Dan!

All right folks, here comes the last round of #2’s hitting the market. The Professor is claiming that he “doesn’t mean” to write 2,000 words about every one of these, but we all know he’s just screwing with me. On to the books! Incredible Hulk #1 Writer: Jason Aaron Artist: Marc Silvestri: I’m not a Hulk fan, I’m not a Silvestri fan, and Aaron is hit-or-miss. Here? It’s a miss. There’s nothing to draw me in, nothing fun and it’s not an issue I thought was worth anything at all. Wolverine and the X-men #1 Writer: Jason Aaron Artist: Chris … Continue reading
