Fresh Eyes On Old Books #5 by Dan!

I have nothing clever to say this time around, let’s do this! Adventure Comics #302 from 1962 By a specific request from one commenter (Bill D…, who could that be?) I have decided to take a look at some good old fashioned Legion stories. To start off, this isn’t just the Legion of Super-Heroes. It, of course, involves Superboy well before he was Superman in a story that involved robots! Not much there content wise, but the Sun-Boy story was a really good one. Splitting this book into two stories both helps and hurts it. Everything happens nice and quickly, … Continue reading
The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #5 by Dan!

Quick and short week, so I’ll try to make this quick and short reviews. We all know that’s not going to happen, but we’ve all got important things to do, so let’s speed this up! My Top Five (The Five Best Comics of the Week) Batman And Robin #14 Writer: Grant Morrison Artist: Frazer Irving Do you ever get tired of me telling you just how awesome Batman and Robin is? Well I’m not sure I’ll be able to much longer with the changing creative team, so enjoy it while it lasts! This issue, things continue building to a head … Continue reading

It Came From the Back Room #4

Standard recap: I’m slowly going through AABC’s one-million-plus back-issue room, restocking the boxes on the sales floor and pulling stuff to sell as discount/overstock/special items. I’m going through the alphabet backwards (don’t ask), and at my speed (especially with the school year now in full gear), this amounts to a two-year project. I’ve currently finished the letter “N” and started on the indy “M” books. Here are some of the titles I’ve been encountering: The Nam First published in 1986, The ‘Nam was that rarest of birds: a realistic, well-written war comic. Writer Doug Murray and editor Larry Hama were … Continue reading

Fresh Eyes on Old Books #4 by Dan!

The emmy goes to… Top Chef! And no one really cares. Dan talks about old comics… and everyone cares! Batman #126 from 1959. Immediately I want to point out that Hawaii wasn’t a state when this came out, and they have a whole section discussing all 49 states, which is AWESOME. Also, Robin uses the bat-plane to blast exhaust into a bad guys face just to disable him. All this happens before Batman and Robin fight the giant Kodiak Bear. Add in some “native eskimo tongue” and you’ll slowly start to realize how awesome this all is. And that’s just … Continue reading
