The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #35 by Dan
Oh no! Bet you didn’t expect me back so soon. Outside circumstances are giving you a double dose of Dan two weeks in a row, so let’s do this! Uncanny X-men #1 Writer: Kieron Gillen Artist: Carlos Pacheco: This is what you should be doing with the X book. It’s not some wacky-art tour like Wolverine was, it’s a fair intro to the characters that has a big ol’ bad guy to fight. Very good stuff. Shame Itself #1: Writer/Artist: Various: There’s a lot to like about this comedy anthology one-shot. It’s fun stuff that’s very self-criticizing. It’s got a … Continue reading

All right folks, here comes the last round of #2’s hitting the market. The Professor is claiming that he “doesn’t mean” to write 2,000 words about every one of these, but we all know he’s just screwing with me. On to the books! Incredible Hulk #1 Writer: Jason Aaron Artist: Marc Silvestri: I’m not a Hulk fan, I’m not a Silvestri fan, and Aaron is hit-or-miss. Here? It’s a miss. There’s nothing to draw me in, nothing fun and it’s not an issue I thought was worth anything at all. Wolverine and the X-men #1 Writer: Jason Aaron Artist: Chris … Continue reading

The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #33 by Dan!
So we’re back in business, and now we’re taking on the number twos, which sounds weird to me, but I’m also a 12-year-old, so that makes it funnier. Before attacking the DC relaunch, we’re actually gunna hit up some other comics, including more #1’s, that are worth noting this week. Let’s do this! Legion of Monster #1 Writer: Dennis Hopeless Artist: Juan Doe I don’t know why I love this book. To put it simply, it’s a team-up monster comic that’s absolutely hilarious. It’s in the style of things like N.E.X.T.W.A.V.E. and it’s damn good, especially for a book with … Continue reading

Phil’s Reviews: Stuff I Bought #203
Sergio Aragones Funnies #2 — Writer/Artist: Guess who Just as entertaining, wide-ranging and well-produced as the first issue, with a combination of the one-page gags that Mad readers are so familiar with, plus a trio of longer (five and seven pages) stories, including a fascinating autobiographical piece about the first time the schoolchild Sergio ever got paid for his drawing; like the other longer works, it’s colored by Groo‘s Tom Luth, and looks wonderful. Throw in a couple of puzzle pages, and this continues to be one of the best comics on the stands. DMZ #68 — Writer: Brian Wood; … Continue reading

This was a pretty good week folks, full of hits and misses all over the place. So let us reel some of these out and judge them accordingly! Ultimate Fallout: Spider-Man No More #1 (of 6) Writer: Brian Michael Bendis Artist: Mark Bagley Ultimate Avengers vs. New Ultimates Writer: Mark Millar Artist: Leinil Yu/Stephen Segovia The Ultimate Universe has its fair share of problems, but every once in a while Bendis can write a sick comic, and that’s the case here. Everyone has their own character moment of reacting to the new Spider-Man; things get shaken up and “nothing will … Continue reading
