Oh holy crap!  We’ve already done ten of these?  Can you believe it? My Top Five (The Five Best Comics of the Week) Batman Inc. #1 Writer: Grant Morrison Artist: Yanick Paquette Any comic that starts with the lines “Where are my hands?” and gets replied with “They are in Hell! Strange Tales II #2 (of 3) — Writers/Artists: Various … And by “various” I mean a six-page Gilbert Hernandez Iron Man and Toro vs. the Leader story, followed by a six-page Jaime Hernandez everybody-at-the-beach story (look at that cover!), plus offerings from Jeffrey Brown, Farel Dalrymple, Paul Hornschemeier,  and Tony Millionaire, among others.  Nine stories total (ten, if you count the one-page Watcher intro on the inside front cover), from some of the weirdest and wildest alternative creators out there, with creator biographies so you can follow up on the stuff you like. It Came From the Back Room #9

Standard recap: I’m slowly going through AABC’s one-million-plus back-issue room, restocking the boxes on the sales floor and pulling stuff to sell as discount/overstock/special items. I’m going through the alphabet backwards (don’t ask), and at my speed (especially with the school year now in full gear), this amounts to a two-year project. I’m currently on the Marvel “M” stuff, and here are some of the titles I’ve been encountering: Marvel Tales: This, of course, is the Spider-Man reprint book, and as such offers a cheap alternative to otherwise-expensive back issues. Fresh Eyes on Old Books #9 by Dan!

All right folks, it’s another dose of opinionated Silver/Bronze Age analysis.  Let’s do this! Amazing Spider-Man #88 from 1970 I was a little disappointed in this issue.  It was extremely misleading on the cover!  Probably only half the book was actually Doc Ock’s phantom legs attacking random people.  The rest was the usual Silver Age Spidey goodness.  It’s exactly what you’d expect from this Stan Lee/John Romita plethora of team ups from this era.  It’s absolute quality stuff that’s very simple to look at and enjoy.  Doc Ock captures some Chinese general (complete with stereotypical Asian designs) and Spiderman has … Continue reading →
