The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #10 By Dan!

Oh holy crap! We’ve already done ten of these? Can you believe it? My Top Five (The Five Best Comics of the Week) Batman Inc. #1 Writer: Grant Morrison Artist: Yanick Paquette Any comic that starts with the lines “Where are my hands?” and gets replied with “They are in Hell! Waiting for the Rest of you!” really is immediately sold to me. Let’s be real here folks, you knew I was going to like this. And dear God did I ever. It had basically everything I wanted right from the sweet JG Jones cover (not pictured). It was in … Continue reading

Fresh Eyes on Old Books #9 by Dan!

All right folks, it’s another dose of opinionated Silver/Bronze Age analysis. Let’s do this! Amazing Spider-Man #88 from 1970 I was a little disappointed in this issue. It was extremely misleading on the cover! Probably only half the book was actually Doc Ock’s phantom legs attacking random people. The rest was the usual Silver Age Spidey goodness. It’s exactly what you’d expect from this Stan Lee/John Romita plethora of team ups from this era. It’s absolute quality stuff that’s very simple to look at and enjoy. Doc Ock captures some Chinese general (complete with stereotypical Asian designs) and Spiderman has … Continue reading

Fresh Eyes on Old Books #8 by Dan!

Watching football and reading old comics on a Sunday, pleasant to say the least. Doctor Strange #170 from 1968 By this point in the Mighty Marvel Manner, Stan Lee hadn’t been writing nearly as much. So what you do get is the sweet Roy Thomas work on Dr. Strange, which is completely worth it. Nightmare is a pretty doofy villain, and honestly he was defeated by being wrapped in a cloak. That’s not a joke. But the issue itself was pretty enjoyable. Artist Dan Adkins was doing his best Ditko impression, and was fairly successful. What’s best about Strange books … Continue reading

The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #8 by Dan!

Interesting week here kids, let’s do this! My Top Five (The Five Best Comics of the Week): Punisher Max: Tiny Ugly World Writer: David Lapham Artist: Dalibor Talajic This book makes it to the top five based on how many times I went “oh holy S#!*” while I was reading it. Lapham? Still crazy. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Much like Garth Ennis, Lapham often tries to gross out with the extreme, and he succeeds so much. I found myself unable to stop reading this book no matter how bad I might have wanted to. The reason this … Continue reading
