It Came From the Back Room #51

Standard recap: I’m slowly going through AABC’s one-million-plus back-issue room, restocking the boxes on the sales floor and pulling stuff to sell as discount/overstock/special items (these are featured at the discount racks at the west end of the store for a couple of weeks after each post, and then go to the discount racks on the east end of the store for a few weeks, and then disappear into our warehouses, so get them while you can). I’m going through the alphabet backwards (don’t ask), and at my speed (even now in the summer, when I’m not teaching), this amounts … Continue reading

The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #54 by Dan!

All right folks, we all survived Free Comic Book Day, the Phoenix con, the San Diego Con and the Fourth of July, so we’re back in the business of buying comics. Are you out of money? Too bad! It was a huge week with plenty of great stuff, so let’s dive right in and do this! (Sorry in advance, but the big books, to me, this week were all Marvels. Phil’s Reviews: Stuff I Bought #226

Walking Dead #100 — Writer: Robert Kirkman;  Art: Charlie Adlard This is now officially the best-selling comic of the year, a tribute to both Kirkman’s storytelling skills and luck in catching the cultural zombie zeitgeist at just the right moment, and with just the right media tie-ins and collaborators. Oh man, bet you didn’t expect me to be back this soon, did you? Well here I am, so let’s do this! Mind MGMT #2 Writer/Artist: Matt Kindt This books makes my brain explode. You start with the cover’s hidden words, you read the story inside both covers, that hints at the ideas of the coming issue; you read the issue using the foreshadowing blue lines along the side, then you read the part of the second story that explains a bit more that might come around. THEN you read the letters page that shows more and the fake back … Continue reading

The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #52 by Dan!

By having entry 52, this means I’ve been doing these reviews for 2 years. How times flies! I’d like to thank you all for reading and I’m sure you’d like to thank me for writing. Well, here’s some more writing for you to be reading (I’m just going in circles), Let’s do this! Manhattan Projects #4 Writer: Jonathan Hickman Artist: Nick Pitarra While Hickman embraces subtlety and the slow burn in his other title, Secret, this book is where he really goes out of his mind. It’s like he had a bunch of pent-up ideas about creations and people and … Continue reading
