The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #3 by Dan!

A very nice, very light week arrives at your local comic shop this week, just in time for the schools to be back in session!  Don’t worry, I’ve got an opinion on a fair amount of them.  Also, I’m watching the movie Seven while I write this, so that should lead to an interesting state of mind.  Let’s do this! My Top Five (The Five Best Comics of the Week) Buzzard #3 Writer/Artist: Eric Powell Just a reminder for all of you, Eric Powell is one of (if not The) best writer/artist combinations out in the market today.  If you’re looking for consistently … Continue reading

A Fantastic Marvel and DC Silver Age Collection Just Purchased!

An incredible amount of key books have been surfacing lately! In the last two days, we acquired a very nice collection of Marvel and DC books, approximately 1,100 items, all from the Silver Age, circa 1962-1967! From Action Comics to X-Men, there’s a great representation of that era we know and love. The book shown here is an indication of the depth of this collection! We have our work cut out for us in the next couple of weeks, and this great new collection will be on display in the store soon. Key issues from this lot will be featured … Continue reading

The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #1 By Dan!

Hey folks! With the new website running smoothly, we’ve decided to change things up just a little bit.  Reviews will now only be one post per week, but The Professor and I will both have a different column on Sundays!  So get ready for some slight changes.  Also, make sure to wear a helmet, in case I blow your mind! My Top Five (The five best comics of the week) Batman 701 Writer: Grant Morrison Artist: Tony Daniel Morrison’s Batman run has been one of the crazier things of the past couple years, which is no big surprise.  Here he … Continue reading

Phil’s Reviews — Stuff I Read and Put Back #174

Shadowland #1 (of 5) — Writer: Andy Diggle;  Pencils: Billy Tan;  Inks: Batt This is the kickoff to yet another crossover event, one stretching over the next five months, although the only regular titles involved seem to be Daredevil and Thunderbolts (depressingly, there will be 18 “extra” books with “Shadowland” in the title that readers will be expected to buy too). It looks like a “Dark DD” riff, sort of like DC’s Arsenal (but, sadly, without any dead-cat weapons or heroin use), involving DD, who’s now the leader of the Hand (don’t ask) against most of the NYC heroes, like … Continue reading

Early Run of Amazing Spider-man and Daredevil Just In!

As the old saying goes, when it rains, it pours! In the last week, we acquired a nice run of Amazing Spiderman, from issue #9 and up, and Daredevil, from #17 and up. A selection of these early issues are currently being featured in our “as seen on our online shop” display case in the west end of the store! The majority of these books are in the G/VG “affordable” range. The day after acquiring this collection, we also purchased a Giant Size X-Men #1, and an early Silver Age X-Men #3! We’ll be purchasing many more early books from … Continue reading
