Not a bad week — two hotly-anticipated first issues, plus still-early, you-can-still-get-the-whole-set editions of some really good titles, and assorted other cool stuff too. Let’s look….: Multiversity #1 — Writer: Grant Morrison; Pencils: Ivan Reis; Inks: Joe Prado Morrison first announced this years ago, right after Infinite Crisis, so it’s had a long gestation; as the title suggests, it uses the 52 universes (universi?) of the New-52 cosmos as its playground, as a group of heroes gather to try to rescue Nix Uotan, the last Monitor, and protect the multiverse from encroaching evil. There weren’t quite as many good comics this week as in the last few months — summer is definitely starting to wind down — but still more than enough to make a decent reading pile. Kick-Ass 3 # 8 ( of 8 ) — Writer: Mark Millar; Pencils: John Romita Jr.; Inks: Tom Palmer Millar has said previously that this issue is the end of both this mini-series and the entire Kick-Ass saga; he’s been coy about hinting that one or both of the main characters might not survive. Fatale #24 (of 24) — Writer: Ed Brubaker; Art: Sean Phillips Hawkeye #19 — Writer: Matt Fraction; Art: David Aja Sandman: Overture #3 (of 6) — Writer: Neil Gaiman; Art: J. H. Williams III Outcast #2 — Writer: Robert Kirkman; Art: Paul Azaceta These first four books are linked simply because they’re all good stories from top creative teams, and representative of the best that weekly serial comics have to offer.
