Phil’s Reviews: Stuff I Bought #285

No more DC special animated covers, but we’re back to lots of first issues — significant debuts from Marvel, DC, Image and a few other companies too — so that should be more than enough to keep us busy: Thor #1 — Writer: Jason Aaron;  Art: Russell Dauterman Marvel gets the most buzz on its new books this week, especially with this distaff version of one of their oldest characters. This isn’t quite a brand-new relaunch of the title (in the way, say, the new Batgirl completely changes the character’s setting, circumstances, creative team, etc.), since Aaron’s still the writer, … Continue reading

Waid has built this story for a couple years, improving Murdock’s life while always letting him have a different new problem to deal with. Waid built stories that didn’t come off as aggressively depressing like his predecessors, and he found a delicate balance between all the conflicts that Murdock had to deal with. This series will just reset with a new … Continue reading

Phil’s Reviews: Stuff I Bought #267

Since there are a fair number of books this week, let’s be different and break them down by company…. Deadly Class #1 — Writer: Rick Remender;  Art: Wes Craig Pretty Deadly #4 — Writer: Kelly Sue Deconnick;  Art: Emma Rios Bad Dog #6 (of 6) — Writer: Joe Casey;  Art: Diego Greco Image’s business model — for a set administrative fee, they provide a publishing platform for creators, who retain all rights to their work — has attracted a number of excellent writers and artists over the last few years, and led to a sprawling, diverse group of titles. Cases … Continue reading
