The Latest and (Mostly) Greatest #87 by Dan!

Another week… another set of reviews. Let’s do this! Sandman Overture #1 Writer: Neil Gaiman Artist: J.H. Williams III Let’s get this awful fact out of the way: I’m not a huge fan of Sandman. I enjoyed the first couple stories, but got tired of the constantly changing art style and the continuing idea of stories about stories’ that I feel like Gaiman always does. Now that I’ve lost half the audience, I will say that I enjoyed all the characters that Gaiman created in the universe. I thought the ideas were clever and smart, but I didn’t enjoy the … Continue reading

All right folks, we’re back in action. Lots of stuff to talk about so let’s do this! Chin Music #2 Writer: Steve Niles Artist: Tony Harris Chin Music is a really hard book to review. On the one hand, you know exactly what you’re getting with the creators, but on the other hand, you don’t know where it’s going to go. I heard it described as “supernatural mob justice” and that’s about the best description I could put on it. Someone has murdered Al Capone, and Elliot Ness is very suspicious of the circumstances. Batman/Superman #1 Writer: Greg Pak Artists: Jae Lee & Ben Oliver I never have hope for weird team-ups like this, but I gave it a shot cause Pak often delivers. And boy does this comic deliver! While Lee’s style has changed a lot over the years, it fits almost perfectly with what’s going on here. The overall story is that some thing is possessing … Continue reading

Hi folks! the internet is down at my house, so I’m hanging with my parents while I do this. Yee-haw! Let’s do this! New Avengers #6 Writer: Jonathan Hickman Artist: Steve Epting Aside from Deadpool, which I don’t count cause it’s a comedy, sometimes I feel like New Avengers is the ony Marvel Now book really worth reading. It’s a completely fresh take on traditional Marvel characters, it’s introduced some new players, and it’s got a high concept that’s bound to have a payoff at some point. With this issue, the cover doesn’t lie, as a planet blows up, things … Continue reading

Fury Max #2 Writer: Garth Ennis Artist: Goran Parlov Hey! Remember all those reasons you like Garth Ennis comics? And remember how you think when he resorts to fart jokes you find yourself just a little disappointed cuz’ you know he can do better? Well, this right here is where he does better. It’sĀ Ennis tellingĀ a straight-up war story, with Nick Fury acting as any of a million different war characters you’ve … Continue reading
