Phil’s Reviews: Stuff I Bought #327
Fables #150 — Writer: Bill Willingham; Pencils: Mark Buckingham; Inks: Steve Leioaloha, Andrew Pepoy, Dan Green and Jose Marzan, Jr.; Colors: Lee Loughridge We’re breaking the pattern of starting with Marvel’s Secret Wars tie-ins this week, to acknowledge the last issue of Fables, DC’s long-running Vertigo title about fairy tales living on Earth (and, before you accuse it of ripping off TV shows like One Upon a Time or Grimm, do the math: it was around long before they were). Powers, for example, has been around for well over a decade — but it’s going to be a TV series starting in March (on the Playstation Network, so good … Continue reading

Rocket Raccoon #1 — Writer/Artist: Skottie Young Legendary Star-Lord #1 — Writer: Sam Humphries; Pencils: Paco Medina; Inks: Juan Vlasco Marvel’s milking their Guardians of the Galaxy franchise hard, with two new ongoing series starring individual members out this week, but they’re doing a good job of it — both books are worth a look. Rocket Raccoon is the best of the two, because Young’s art is such a wonder: fans know him from his “little kid” alternate covers to a bunch of Marvel titles over the last few years, and from his work on the various Oz books, and … Continue reading
