Fresh Eyes on Old Books #10 by Dan!
Now it’s time for me to read some more old stuff and use excessive amounts of exclamation points!!! Let’s! Do! This! Fantastic Four #64 from 1967 This is a Kirby comic. There’s no better way to describe what comes from this issue. A combination of weird blocky robots, the Fantastic Four being fantastic, and the Inhumans lead to an exact representation of what Jack Kirby did for the medium. It has the main evidence of Kirby’s styles in the huge drawings of machinery, Kirby dots, and big splash pages of action. Not to mention that it’s a lot of fun. … Continue reading

Fresh Eyes on Old Books #4 by Dan!
The emmy goes to… Top Chef! And no one really cares. Dan talks about old comics… and everyone cares! Batman #126 from 1959. Immediately I want to point out that Hawaii wasn’t a state when this came out, and they have a whole section discussing all 49 states, which is AWESOME. Also, Robin uses the bat-plane to blast exhaust into a bad guys face just to disable him. All this happens before Batman and Robin fight the giant Kodiak Bear. Add in some “native eskimo tongue” and you’ll slowly start to realize how awesome this all is. And that’s just … Continue reading

Fresh Eyes on Old Books #2 by Dan!
So here’s your second dose of my opinion of old stuff. Yes, this stuff is much much older than I am, but on the internet, everyone gets an opinion! Iron Man #5 from 1968 I never get tired of Stan Lee. Though this issue is written by Archie Goodwin, the effects of Lee’s editing run heavily throughout. This issue is especially interesting because it supposedly takes place in a seperate reality, and by the end of it, Tony Stark is right back where he started. So what does that mean? Iron Man #5 didn’t even remotely worry about continuity or … Continue reading
