Phil-In – Reviews by AABC Staffer Dan- Stuff I Bought #126

All right folks! Deadlines and stuff have these posted way early! In other words, you’re welcome! Herogasm #2 (of 6) Writer: Garth Ennis Artist: John McCrea Well… that was a lot more nudity than last issue. The superhero perversion continues, and the hilarity ensues. Whether it’s farting brown gas, taking interestingly formed drugs, or just copping a feel, this mini-series has taken no prisoners. Hilarious dirty stuff, but what do you expect from the guys who brought you Hitman? Incognito #4 (of 6) Writer: Ed Brubaker Artist: Sean Philips Delays hurt this, but it’s still easily better than 75% of … Continue reading

Phil-In: Stuff I Read and Put Back: #126

More and more deadlines, so let’s chug a Pepsi and do this dance! Action Comics Annual #12 Writer: Greg Rucka Artist: Pere Perez Interesting layouts by Perez are the only thing that make this Annual interesting at all.  The confusing Nightwing/Flamebird-through-history-thing was weird, and a little too full of itself, in my opinion.  I quit reading this once, and then went back and finished it.  Bad choice, cause it really was not very good. Air # 10 Writer: G. Willow Wilson Artist: M.K. Perker Everytime I read this I find myself thinking “huh?”  The plot is fairly thin, but becomes … Continue reading

Getting off My Duff #21

Hello Everyone! So something out of the ordinary for new Wednesday comics this week! Marvel shipped us the new CAPTAIN AMERICA #600 TWO DAYS early this week, breaking the new Wednesday “street date” that they make every retailer normally adhere too. It’s all OK, because there’s been a lot of press covering the new “Reborn” storyline that will bring back, well, you know who, as the one and only CAP! It’s a beautiful looking book, so c’mon in and grab your copy before we sell out. (Fear not. There will be a 2nd print!) Speaking of out of the ordinary, … Continue reading

Phil-In – Reviews by AABC Staffer Dan- Stuff I Bought #125:

Phil-In:  Stuff I Bought: Flash: Rebirth #3 (of 7) Writer: Geoff Johns Artist: Ethan Van Sciver It feels like as Johns writes this he is basically throwing everything against the wall to see what sticks.  The interesting thing, for me, is that everything has stuck.  Yes its continuity heavy, but I still find it a completely enjoyable experience.  Also of note, Van Sciver’s art has been perfect.  I didn’t expect it to look this good.  Though this is completely different than GL: Rebirth, it’s still been just as fun. Fantastic Four #567 Writer: Mark Millar Artist: Bryan Hitch My Millar … Continue reading

Phil-In – Reviews by AABC Staffer Dan – Stuff I Read and Put Back #125:

Phil-In: Stuff I Read and Put Back: Titans #14 Writer: Eric Wallace Artist: Michael Shoyket Oh man.  I literally did not think anything would ever reference the old mini-series Teen Titans Spotlight: Cyborg, but here ya go.  I’m officially completely done with the Titans series.  A whole lot of talk about not being a robot, mixed with strange religious undertones, and a random irrelevant bit with Starfire.  Mix these all together and what do you get?  Terrible, terrible stuff. Red Robin #1 Writer: Chris Yost  Artist: Ramon Bachs Ha! So I don’t like all the redone Batman titles!  This is … Continue reading
