Getting off My Duff #15

I’d like to thank one and all who took part in the annual International Free Comic Book Day this last Saturday on May 2nd. It was a fun day had by all, customer and retailer alike. Days like this legitimize and give credibility to the hobby that we all love. Marsha and I relish in it. Thank you as well to all of you who dropped off food donations for St. Mary’s Food Bank. We raised over 600 cans of food thanks to your generosity!  Thank you for the support. Have a browse of the photos we took on FCBD in our website photo gallery here.

In other news, some incredible collections over the last two weeks have been filtering into the store. Thirty-eight boxes of mostly NM DC’s from the last 27 years are being sorted by Dan as we speak. This is approximately 6,500 books that our regular customers will get first dibs at. Make sure we have your email address so that you don’t miss the email notification about these gems being featured in the store (I’ll give you advance notice).

Our Silver/Golden Age source from Florida just sent a mouth-watering selection of books our way last week. Included in this: ADVENTURE #247, the very FIRST Legion of Superheroes story from 1958, lots of 10 cent SUPERBOY’S, including #11, and ACTION #79! This is just a sampling, and more (mostly Silver Age) are on the way! Eight books from this collection will be featured in our next auction, starting this Thursday, May 7th. And just this morning, we acquired a gentleman’s collection of CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED; 81 assorted issues to be exact. These will displayed on the south wall above the new comic selection in the next week. Check ’em out.

And the deal of the week? Lucky me is turning 56 years old this week. Yeah, lucky me. Pop in the shop this Wednesday, see Marsha or myself or any staff member, say the number “56” and we’ll give you 25% OFF ANY One Item in the store! (The only consign I can’t do this with is the high end consign books labeled, “RE” or “MG”) So c’mon in this Wednesday, and support me in my old age!
