Getting Off My Duff #12

Only so many sardines will fit in the can. I can always find more room for comic books in the store, but Action Figures are a whole different matter. We definitely have some overstock building up, particularly DC figures, so tomorrow Marsha and Dan will be adding a HUGE mix of superhero AF’s to the parking lot side North wall, as you enter the store from the west side. The majority of these new figures will be 50% OFF, if not more! Needless to say, in today’s economy, I’m ordering considerably less, so if there’s every anything you’re specifically looking … Continue reading

Getting Off My Duff #11

Hello everyone! We’re in the process this week, mostly Ashley and myself, of pricing and refilling a lot of contemporary back issues for the back issue display boxes in the center of the store. I know I’m always foaming at the mouth about Silver and Bronze Age books, but contemporary back issues are an integral part of our store’s mix too. Titles just added this week: BLACK PANTHER, GREEN ARROW and BLACK CANARY, GREEN LANTERN CORPS, JONAH HEX, MS. MARVEL, MOON KNIGHT, NEW AVENGERS…just to name a few. The Professor will have completed another year of teaching soon, so expect … Continue reading

Getting Off My Duff #10

I was adding stock to the back issue bins this morning and it hit me that…holy crap, we are drowning in back issues right now! Not all of the selection is “key” back issues, but there’s a lot of great Silver and Bronze age era books in stock right now. But, alas, this isn’t a museum. So from Wed. thru Sat. this week, here’s the deal: Buy $100.00 of back issues from the sales floor, and take 25% off the retail price. Buy $200.00 of back issues from the sales floor and take 30% off! This includes ALL back issues … Continue reading

GETTING OFF My Duff #9

Marsha and I are truly getting off our duffs today; we’re starting a “spin” class today to work on our middle aged cardio! So let me crank this out before getting yelled at by our spin coach! The new Overstreet price guide ships tomorrow…about three weeks earlier than it normally does! We suspect prices, particularly on nice condition Silver Age, will jump about 10% this year. Other years have seen price jumps as high as 20%, but the current recession will rescind any of that notion. We’re receiving 20 guides tomorrow, so if you’d like one, come in early to … Continue reading

Phil-In – Reviews by AABC Staffer Dan – Stuff I Read and Put Back:

Oh man. You survived one week, but can you survive another? Here’s part 2 of 2 in the ongoing, “Somebody Please Bring Phil Back” Reviews. Let’s Do this dance! Ultimatum #3 (of 5) Writer: Jeph Loeb Artist: David Finch Jeph Loeb makes my whole body feel anger all at once. I was verbally angry while I read this, pretty consistently saying “UGH” out loud, like a bad Peanuts cartoon. He literally hasn’t been good since he was with Tim Sale, and if you’re wondering, Finch IS NOT Tim Sale. This is why Loeb got fired from Heroes, the stuff he … Continue reading
