Getting off My Duff #24

Thank you one and all for your monetary support at this year’s 4th of July sale! The comic distributor bills have been through the roof lately, so all sales are greatly appreciated. Hey, you could all do us a favor. Write to Marvel and tell them to keep their price points at $2.99 per book. Do those guys in New York know what a recession is????? As per the norm, we’re in the process of sorting another collection. Dan and I sorted and alphabetized approximately 6,000 books in the last two weeks, and I spent some of the holiday weekend … Continue reading

Phil-In – Reviews by AABC Staffer Dan- Stuff I Bought #127

Oh man, this stuff is better than Transformers 2! Read on… Detective Comics #854 Writer: Greg Rucka Artist: J.H. Williams III This is absolutely fantastic.  Rucka picks up on some of his previous dealings with Batwoman flawlessly, to the point where it’s not too much for a casual reader to pick up.  He clearly enjoys writing these characters, and it shines through in his work.  But Williams is clearly the star of this book.  His two page spreads are stunning, and his layout work is amazing.  This isn’t a must-read as much as it is a must-stare at.  Amazing, best … Continue reading

Phil-In – Reviews by AABC Staffer Dan – Stuff I Read and Put Back:#127

This is the end folks! We’ve laughed, we’ve cried, we’ve mocked my grammar, we’ve mocked my opinions, but all in all it’s been a good time. Let’s wrap this up faster than a mediocre NBA draft! Avengers/Invaders #12 of 12 Writer: Jim Krueger Artist: Steve Sadowski & Jack Herbert Oh man, what a crock of B.S. this turned out to be. 12 issues to lead into the next Alex Ross “not actually written” series (Human Torch, if you’re wondering), and this is just bad. Not good for any real reason and a waste of one year worth of money and … Continue reading

Getting off My Duff #22

So we’re going to get Dan “off his duff”, which he’s rarely on, to sort through another 25 boxes of comics we just picked up in the last two weeks. I always have Dan do the sorting because he’s fast and he really knows his comics! This newest batch of comics has a little Silver, a few more Bronze, and lots of Modern from 1980 to present. As per norm, you’ll see a lot of the last three decades of books priced as “sets” or “packets”, and the more collectible books will be priced individually. In case you haven’t checked … Continue reading
