Getting off My Duff #3

Most of you are probably aware that ALL ABOUT BOOKS AND COMICS has been around a long time. To be exact, since 1973! Needless to say, we have accumulated a lot of stock. We are in the process of clearing out some severe overstock from a couple of warehouses, i.e, part of my family room and most of Eddie’s living room! Many of these titles we’re bulking out were not only great sellers in their day, but excellent reads also. Titles like AIRBOY have a great Golden Age (1940’s) appeal, and EX-MUTANTS have, well, that mutated super team flavor we all know and love so well! We’re selling these books on the cheap because we flat out need the room. When you enter the store this week, you’ll see numerous long white comic books on the parking lot side of the store packed solid with 300 COMICS for ONLY $19.95! Yeah, there are duplicates in the selection, but I mean, c’mon, 300 COMICS FOR ONLY TWENTY BUCKS!

Marsha and I have pulled numerous sets from these long stored boxes and turned them into discounted packets that the store has become known for. Try these deals out….AMERICAN FLAGG #1-29 for only $19.95, 29 issues of EX-MUTANTS for only $12.95, 15 issues of NEW HUMANS for $7.95, STARBLAZERS #1-10 for $5.95. We’ve done plenty of others, from JON SABLE to TWILIGHT ZONE, and these are on display too! And for the Getting-Off-My-Duff-deal for this week, if you mention reading the Blog or Professor Mateer’s reviews, you can take 20% OFF ANY PACKET, consign or otherwise!

And check out the new HIGH END COMIC BOOK wall display Ashley just finished today. Silver Age to Modern Books to absolutely drool over! Forget the stock market…YOU NEED THESE COLLECTIBLE COMICS!

See ya’ in the funny pages!

  1. Mr. Statistics says:

    Alan,
I think you would be much better off if you advertised your overstock in the starkest possible terms. 300 books for $20 comes out to 6.66 cents per book!! Let’s see… if Bookman’s is buying used comics for 25 cents per book, it seems that a customer might actually be able to make a hefty profit on this deal!!!

Another angle might be selling the weight of the pulp itself. For example, if a box weights about 35 pounds then that’s only 57 cents per pound. I don’t even think that firewood is that cheap! And why couldn’t someone use all those mutants books for firewood? I mean, wrap them up real tight, pour some charcoal fluid on them, and don’t breathe the smoke! (http://www.instructables.com/id/Intro_1/)

It is a shame to burn the books, especially since Eddie won’t have any end-tables in his apartment anymore!!! But, if you need end-tables in your own apartment, $20 per end table is pretty cheap, too. Just remember, surviving tough times requires ingenuity! And this is a smokin’ deal, quite literally.

    Sincerely,
    Mr. Stats
