Phil-In: Stuff I Bought

Now the good stuff, unless you think I’m wrong, in which case you’re probably wrong, so it’s still the good stuff! The Bulletproof Coffin Writer: David Hine Artist: Shaky Kane Why yes, I did buy this based purely on the fact that I remember Shaky Kane from One cover of Morrison’s Doom Patrol. Please don’t judge me. This was absolutely awesome and I can’t even begin to explain why. Kane has a combo style of Moebius and Darrow, and that is the best compliment I can give. We don’t have many copies of this indy book, so get it while … Continue reading

Phil-In: Stuff I Read and Put Back
So the summer of the trade off begins! Phil and I will be switching off on these reviews every week, so that means I need some kind of new title. If you have any good ideas, send them in, but for now I’m sticking with “Phil-in” even though it’s completely not applicable anymore! Darkstar and the Winter Guard #1 (of 3) Writer: David Gallaher Artist: Steve Ellis The latest in a long line of “wait… Marvel is publishing what?” style comics brings us the Russian team you’ve all been waiting for! But really, why does this exist? The Agents of … Continue reading

Phil-In: Stuff I Bought by Dan Jacka
Part two people! Keep awake while I inform you of the stuff that’s actually worth getting! Batman: Return of Bruce Wayne #1 (of 6) Writer: Grant Morrison Artist; Chris Sprouse This is as bizarre as you think it would be. Carrying out of Final Crisis, this story picks up the pieces of Anthro and Vandal Savage, but added a certain someone in as the bat-God. Sprouse puts this issue at its best by having an uncanny ability to draw cavemen fights. A great start to what could be a fantastic mini-series Birds of Prey #1 Writer: Gail Simone Artist: Ed … Continue reading

Phil-In: Stuff I Read and Put Back by Dan Jacka
It’s happening again folks! With Phil taking a much needed rest to finish off his semester, Dan is back with a Phil-in. Let’s see what sucks shall we? Titans: Villains for Hire one-shot Writer: Eric Wallace Artists: Fabrizio Fiorentino, Mike Mayhew, Sergio Arino, Walden Wong Oh. Oh God. Oh God this is awful. This one-shot is meant to set up the Titans for their next big thing, whatever that is. Slade organizes a team of mediocre and unrecognizable characters to randomly murder the All-New Atom. It switches between torture and back story, but none of it makes any sense. Worst … Continue reading

Phil-In: Stuff I Bought:
This is it. The moment you’ve waited for. The last set of reviews until Phil comes back! Spider-Woman #7 Writer: Brian Michael Bendis Artist: Alex Maleev So everything finally comes to a head, it’s a very good ending to the first arc, and it’s cancelled. Gee Thanks Marvel! This was the best issue of what had been a lackluster series, but it’s surprising to see the axe this quickly. They blame it on motion comics, but shouldn’t they have known that was a problem a couple issues in? Lame. Brave and the Bold #32 Writer: J. Michael Straczynski Artist: Jesus … Continue reading
