Phil-In – Reviews by AABC Staffer Dan – Stuff I Read and Put Back #125:

Phil-In: Stuff I Read and Put Back: Titans #14 Writer: Eric Wallace Artist: Michael Shoyket Oh man.  I literally did not think anything would ever reference the old mini-series Teen Titans Spotlight: Cyborg, but here ya go.  I’m officially completely done with the Titans series.  A whole lot of talk about not being a robot, mixed with strange religious undertones, and a random irrelevant bit with Starfire.  Mix these all together and what do you get?  Terrible, terrible stuff. Red Robin #1 Writer: Chris Yost  Artist: Ramon Bachs Ha! So I don’t like all the redone Batman titles!  This is … Continue reading

Getting off My Duff #20

Hello Everyone! Ashley, Dan and I have been tenaciously bagging, boarding, and pricing thousands of comic books this week and adding these books to the 40,000 already on display. As stated earlier, this is an original owner collection, purchased from us over the last 25 years. The books are in absolutely splendid shape; easily the majority in the NM+ 9.6 range of condition. We’re up to the “M’s” today, and the real work starts at the end of the week when we tackle the…gulp…”S’s”! (Think SUPERMAN, and all incarnations of this title, SPIDERMAN, ETC.!) This week we’ve added everything from … Continue reading

Phil-In – Reviews by AABC Staffer Dan- Stuff I Bought #124:

Batman and Robin #1 Writer: Grant Morrison Artist: Frank Quitely Really, are you surprised that this is here?  What’s shocking to me was how accessible this comic would be to first time readers.  Everything makes sense (which is saying something in a Morrison comic), the back story you need is explained, and it’s pretty.  After an awkward page that makes Robin look like a weird old man, everything else was good to go.  Enjoyable and easy to access for anyone wanting to jump onboard the latest bat-styles. The Boys #31 Writer: Garth Ennis Artist: Carlos Ezquerra Worth noting because it’s … Continue reading

Phil-In – Reviews by AABC Staffer Dan – Stuff I Read and Put Back #124:

Surprise! That’s right folks, back again (and for the entire month of June) we have the wonderful “Phil-in” reviews.  Let’s Do this dance! Punisher: Naked Kill. Writer: Jonathan Maberry Artist: Laurence Campbell. You know it can’t be good when I criticize this before I ever get to Ultimatum.  I’m still stuck on “Ennis was the best Punisher writer” syndrome, and this is not helping me get passsed that at all.  The problem is really the story itself.  It’s about a human trafficking porn ring where the ladies are murdered on camera by a man known as “eleventhree” (all one word, … Continue reading

Getting off My Duff #19

I never thought that early 1980’s comic books would ever seem like antiques to me, but after sorting and pricing several hundred books this week from that time period, I’ve changed my mind. Comic books that retailed for 50 cents to 75 cents are now THREE DECADES old! And I was a retailer back then selling them! Sheesh! Where’s my hearing aid and cane? The staff and I have priced a lot of beautiful NM books this week from the 7,000 or so I acquired a couple of weeks ago. As stated in earlier blogs, the majority of the books … Continue reading
