Return to the Past

As most of my regular customers know, I have this inate fascination with the SILVER AGE, comic books published between the years of 1956 and 1970. The wonders of owning this business is that I get to experience the thrill of purchasing and selling these little bits of American publishing history on a daily basis. Don’t get me wrong; I love the entire medium very much, but it’s that step through the past that stokes my engine. I get that same sense of awe when a childhood customer walks back into our store after a two decade absence. That “little bit of All About History” is now a mature adult! In the last year, Mark Macumber, now a doctor in Chicago but then a scholarly bright Brophy student, requested us to sell his collection on consignment, for with a new child on the way, there was no more room to house his childhood love, comic books. We jumped at the chance, because Mark was a Silver Age fanatic, haunting the store daily in the early 80’s to acquire as many 10 and 12 cent books as he could! Many of you have perused and purchased some of Mark’s old collection, on display in the store since early last summer. And last week, Eddie Castorani, once a cherubic 13 year old X-MEN fanatic in our store on 3rd Ave and Indian School in 1981, came in and consigned his collection with us. Now 38 years old and a history school teacher, Eddie has a new home with a new..uh…larger mortgage. If you like beautifully conditioned UNCANNY X-MEN from #94 and up, come in a take a peak at Eddie’s books! Mark, Eddie, and their comic books. Just little bits of AABC history!
