Guest Blogging — Kurt Collins — Comics Soundtracks

Sound the trumpets and strike up the band!
At long last,
–My blog!
Hope you like it!

Salutations to all the AABC Universe!

A quick tip of the hat to Marsha and Alan for bringing my idea to
fruition; and also allowing me to be the spark that ignites the fire.
I am honored and surprised – THANK YOU!

As was mentioned in an AABC e-mail, my name is Kurt Collins and I’ve been a customer ever since moving here from Grand Rapids, Michigan 25 years ago – with the exception of the few years I went A.W.O.L. to pursue a career in the mobile disc jockey biz! Hey! CD’s were/are expensive and those were my pre-computer days; but I digress.

Now,12 years later I work for “Windy City DJ’s” (who also just
celebrated 25 years of service in the valley) and love doing it.
Check them out at Greatdjmusic.com!

While I was looking for music on Itunes for an upcoming event,
I stumbled across a playlist that was the inspiration for this here
li’l ol’ blog.

Sure, I had other ideas in mind but it’s tough to decide what my
first real blog was going to be about; but when I saw this playlist,
it was like a sign from above! The Heavens opened, choirs of
angels began singing! At last I had my subject; at least two of
my favorite hobbies, music & comics, could be talked about at
the same time.

Now I know you’re thinking – “That’s great, but what does music
have to do with comics?”

Believe it or not – a lot!

Music helps set the mood for what’s going on in a particular scene.
It adds excitement, anger, sadness, happiness, fear and it also
allows you to get a feel for the characteristics of the character(s)
and so much more. Try watching “Batman Returns” or “X-Men 2”
without some
sort of music to help set the tone.

Go ahead, I’ll wait!

Ok times up – see what I mean? It just doesn’t play out the same. Music
is that important!

Now the playlist is called “Superhero Songs.. After seeing what songs
were chosen & available, it reminded me of a conversation I had with a
friend about the “Heroes” t.v. show. If you could be a Superhero, what
would your powers be? Would you have a codename, secret identity; or
how about a theme song?

Needless to say, we had a great time, and we came up with some interesting
ideas.

On that note, not only am I going to pose the same question to you, but take it a bit further and ask what would your soundtrack or theme be?

How about a soundtrack for your favorite hero or villain in a particular
issue of your favorite title?

Go ahead and think it out. I’ll be interested in seeing what your
selection(s) will be.

Until next time, I’ll keep the tunes spinnin’ and the amp cranked to 11!
