Getting off My Duff #45 by Marsha

28 Years ago today, Alan and I walked into our attorney’s office at 9 AM and walked out the proud owners of what was then called “A Little Book Store”.  It was  a small used book store with a small selection of new comics and approximately 30,000 back issue comics. For those of you who have been with us all these years (and there are quite a few of you) you know that the store moved, grew, multiplied until at one point we had 6 stores.  Then a few years ago we decided to go full circle and get back to one store so that we could be in the store seeing our customers instead of managing a group of stores. It has been a fabulous journey and we wouldn’t change a thing. Today, the store no longer has the used books but has over one million back issue comics, a full selection of new comics, a huge selection of trade paperbacks, graphic novels, and hardbacks, action figures, statues, supplies, t-shirts, CCG’s and more. We are proud to have earned the prestigious Will Eisner Retailer of the Year Award (2003) and the Best of Phoenix award for over a decade. This wouldn’t be possible if we didn’t have the highly talented, dedicated, knowledgeable and friendly staff that we do or without you our dedicated and loyal customers.  So thank you for being a part of our journey.  In celebration we are offering 28% off any one item in the store (not valid on consignment) today, Tues. Dec. 1st.  If you are on our email list you should have received your 28% off coupon in an email on Sunday. If you aren’t on our list sign up today on the main page of the website!

In keeping with the growth of the store we have finally joined FACEBOOK!  If you are on facebook please become a FAN of All About Books & Comics. You can become a fan by clicking on the Facebook icon on our home page. If you are not on FACEBOOK, you can easily join via this link as well. The advantage of becoming a FAN on FACEBOOK is that you will receive constant updates on sales, specials, new collections, and important information from the store on a real time basis and not have to wait for a new blog, flyer or email!

Last week I mentioned that All About Books & Comics is adopting a family in need for the holidays.  The Mom works, but just recently had her hours cut back, the Dad is currently unemployed, looking for work and going to school to try to earn a higher paying job to support his family. They have four children, three boys ages, 3,5 and 12 and a girl age 9.  I have a list of items that this family is in desperate need of, and a list of things these kids would love to have for Christmas. I will be posting this list on the blog in the next few days and offering you something in return for your donations. I will also have a flyer out at the store.  With the economy as bad as it is we know how hard it is for everyone and we are eager to help a family less fortunate than ours. We welcome your contributions.

Just a few other important reminders about this week.  New comics are delayed a day due to the Thanksgiving holiday and will be on sale this Thurs. Dec. 3rd, instead of Wed.  Alan and I will still be in the store on Wed. if you want to stop by:)

And this Sat. Dec. 5th is the annual Electric Light Parade along Central Ave. We will stay open late to enjoy the parade  (begins after dark) so please stop on by and watch from front row seats in front of our store!  Don’t worry; the streets aren’t closed off until late in the day so if you are a regular Saturday shopper you won’t have trouble getting to the store. It is fun, free and a great way to celebrate the holidays.
While I have been taking over the duties on Tuesdays of posting the blog for Alan lately, he has been busy pricing our constantly growing inventory at AABC!  Today he is putting out a large group of bronze/silver Superman family related books at the killer price of $5.00 each with some as low as two for $5.00.  If you are a DC fan these deals can’t be beat!

And lastly, this weeks DEAL OF THE WEEK? Buy 2 Action Figures, get one Free. Sorry this deal is not valid on any consignment toys or new figures arriving Thurs. Dec. 3rd.   Be sure to mention the blog to get the DEAL!

See you at the shop!
Marsha:)
