Giving Thanks!
As we look at this Thanksgiving holiday, we realize we have so much to be grateful for. We are so thankful for our loyal friends and customers that have made it possible for us to be in business 26 years (as of 12/1/07). We are often reminded by many, how lucky we are that our “job” is owning a comic book store. This couldn’t be truer than these last couple of weeks when I got to “hold” (ie. grade & price) A VF Amazing Spider-man #9 (auction ending tomorrow night!),2 Incredible Hulk # 181’s, 2 Uncanny X-men #94’s, Iron Man … Continue reading

Ask the Professor #3 — Skrulls
Mike B. from Phoenix (whom the Professor has known since he was just a wee lad) asks: Phil, you look exactly the same as you did 10 years ago. To what do you attribute your lack of aging? Are you a clone, perhaps? Or, *gasp* a skrull? OK, so that isn’t a question about a storyline, character, artist, or trivia. How about we stick with the skrull theme and you tell us what ever happened to the skrulls the FF turned into cows, and if you think they will in any way be a part of the upcoming skrull invasion … Continue reading

Phil's Reviews — Stuff I Bought #45
World War Hulk #5 (of 5) — Writer: Greg Pak; Pencils: John Romita Jr.; Inks: Klaus Janson On first flipping through this, I was disappointed — big fight (with the Sentry), seemingly-lame resolution, no big change in status quo (and the ads in the back for the “new” Hulk book with a red Hulk, and for something next year called Skaar, Son of Hulk didn’t help). However, a second, slower, less fanboyish-what’s-gonna-happen read paid off; it’s a story about, not only rage, but uncontrolled use of power — by the Illuminati, by the Hulk, by the Sentry — and what … Continue reading

Phil's Reviews — Stuff I Read and Put Back #45
Captain Marvel #1 — Writer: Brian Reed; Penciler: Lee Weeks; Inks: Stefano Gaudiano This reminds me of Young Avengers #1, in that it benefited greatly from reduced expectations: I went in ready to make fun of it, but it’s actually pretty good. Reed’s able to weave an actual theme (we’re here to make a mark, to accomplish something worth remembering) throughout the story, get inside Mar-Vell’s head enough to make us sympathize with him, and even clean up some of the damage from that awful Paul Jenkins one-shot by hinting that it was all a big misunderstanding/mistake. The Weeks art … Continue reading

Where does it all come from?
Hello everyone! Alan the salesman here. I really dislike the “pitchman” approach sometimes, but when some very cool items filter into the store, I just gotta pitch ’em to ya’! Yet again, we just acquired a nice collection of some very nice runs of late Silver and Bronze age comics. This recent batch includes: IRON MAN #1-150, CAPTAIN AMERICA #100-200, and X-MEN #94-150, including GIANT-SIZE X-MEN #1 from 1975. The first issues of each run will be included in our next auction, with such choice items as IRON MAN & SUB-MARINER #1, IRON MAN #55, MARVEL SPOTLIGHT #28, and a … Continue reading
