Getting off My Duff #2

So this mail order customer of ours calls from Florida and inquires about selling some of his comics on consignment. I’m always interested in key stock filtering into the store, and I get especially geeked out when the consignor informs me that the comics are 10 cent DC’s from the late Golden and early Silver Age era! He asks if we’re interested in selling these items, and in the words or our immortal ex-president, I say, “Bring ’em on!” And for your perusal, all the books are now priced and on display in the store. The majority of the books … Continue reading

Final Crisis #7 (of 7) — Writer: Grant Morrison;  Pencils: Doug Mahnke;  Inks: Tom Nguyen, Drew Geraci, Christian Alamy, Norm Rapmund, Rodney Ramos, Doug Mahnke and Walden Wong No big insights at the end here (at some point, I’ve got to read the whole thing in sequence), but a few small observations: (1) Mahnke turned out to be the perfect sub, and in retrospect should have been on this thing from the beginning; maybe now he’ll get the respect he deserves (and should have had after Action #775).  (2) The two issues of Superman Beyond 3D are the only “extra” … Continue reading

Getting Off My Duff #1

Alright, so I made a commitment that every week I need to correspond with my loyal AABC customer base, so if you see me slacking, I encourage you to let me know! My intention is to keep all of you better informed of new additions, new stock, and just general changes within the store. I’ll be brief and to the point, so check back with me (a.k.a, Alan) every Tuesday for a bit of comic book info and general tomfoolery. In case you haven’t noticed yet, our long-time outside sign artist has resurfaced, and has outdone himself with a beautiful … Continue reading

Superman Beyond 3D #2 (of 2) — Writer: Grant Morrison;  Pencils: Doug Mahnke;  Inks: Christian Alamy with Tom Nguyen, Drew Geraci and Derek Fridolfs This is exactly the kind of sophisticated, hyperactive superhero romp we all wanted Final Crisis to be, right done to the instructions on the 3D glasses and the wink at the end (and the metatextual insights as the secret ingredient…). For less than $10, you can get this and the first issue, and so only have to rip out one pair of the glasses. Totally worth it, and Mahnke is perfect for this stuff; he hits … Continue reading
