Amazing Fantasy #15

We just acquired a nice Silver Age collection of Marvel’s and DC’s from the 1962 to 1967 era, and with it, the Holy Grail of any Silver Age comic book collection, AMAZING FANTASY #15, featuring the 1st appearance of AMAZING SPIDERMAN! Front, back and centerfold scans can be viewed here. It’s really a nice looking key, with lots of integrity left. It’s also one of the tougher to grade keys we’ve had in some time, with this book falling somewhere in the nebulous region of Good+ 2.5 to G/VG 3.0. Here’s the condition breakdown: Original staples are completely adhered to spine, with an ever-so-slight 1/4 inch tear at the bottom of the spine. There is a 1/6 of an inch piece missing from the upper and lower right side of the cover, as you’ll notice in the scan. The back cover is missing a 1/4 inch piece from the bottom of the spine. There is an ever so slight crease that goes from the top of the book above the “M” in the logo 2/3 through the cover and ends midway through Spider-man. Being buried in between a stack of other comic books for the last 40 years has been a significant help for the book’s color luster. It’s quite nice. There is slight browning in the interior covers and inside pages, but not to the point of brittleness. Centerfold is intact, and no coupons have been clipped. Absolutely NO restoration has been performed on this key, having been tucked away for many a year until recently. Current Overstreet places the value in the $5,000.00 to $5,200.00 range, but we’ll begin the bidding on this affordable gem at the Good price, which is $3,500.00. The book goes on sale on eBay under Seller AMGiroux at 1 pm on Sunday, July 24th. Priority mail with up to $4000.00 insurance and signature confirmation is $55.00, but of course the book can be picked up at our store if you are local. Superman #1, #2, #3 From 1939 For SALE!

Collecting comic books to the true aficionado is a lifetime hobby, but there comes a point in every collector’s life when it’s time to say “so long” to some of your best stuff! Today is one of those days. For nearly two decades, Marsha and I have owned original copies of Superman #1, #2, and #3 from 1939. We’ve always viewed these gems as an investment, and these books always have been, but as of today, these books are now up for sale. This magnificent comic book group of issues #1, #2, and #3 of SUPERMAN from 1939 was purchased from SOTHEBY’S auction house on September 30 of 1992 (original bill of sale paperwork provided with books). This highly desirable SUPERMAN run is a representation of one of the most sought after collectibles in the comic book market! (Lot number 278, auction conducted by David N Redden) Issue #1 is flat and clean with off-white pages, but the front and back covers have become detached from each other and the spine. The interior advertisement of the “Superman of America” coupon has been cleanly clipped out, but does not affect the interior story. Overall, an exceptionally beautiful copy, and the grade would easily be in the F/VF range if not for the two stated defects. Both the front and back cover still maintain nice bright color luster. The inside of the front cover is browning but not brittle. The inside of the back cover is tanning but not brittle. As flat and clean as the front and back covers are, the spine is easily restorable. Issue #2 is a solid CGC Fine+ 6.5. Issue #3 is an “apparent” slight restored, CGC graded VG+ 4.5, with cream to off-white pages. With copies of Action #1 and Detective #27 selling for $1,000,000.00 or more these are the investment of a lifetime. The cover of #1 is pictured here. Complete Run of Classics Illustrated!

We just acquired a COMPLETE run of CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED from a long time collector! This includes #’s 1-169…a very difficult run to complete, as most CI aficionado’s are aware of! The overall general condition of the collection is in the Very Good range. Here are some key notables from the lot: #14 in Good- to Good (one of the rarer CI’s to find…Overstreet even in this grade is close to $200.00!), #21 in VG+, #33 in VG, #43 in Fair, #66 in Fine, #74 in VG-, #117 in F/VF, #159 in Fine+, #167 and #168 in F/VF. About 25% of the collection are 1st prints. Graded carefully by Overstreet standards, the set realistically guides out at $2,500.00 plus change. We’re asking for the low minimum bid of $1,995.00 or best offer on the entire lot. Let us know if you have any questions here.

We’ve posted some great stock on eBay this week…with 99% of it mostly late Golden Age Superman family oriented books! We’ll get to some early Silver Age Marvels in the next week or so. The majority of the selection is in the lower condition range…and most are an extra 50% OFF OF GUIDE! We don’t see books from this time period very often, so stock up now while the prices are really low. If you can pick up your buys at the store on Central, forget about that postage fee! An incredible amount of key books have been surfacing lately! In the last two days, we acquired a very nice collection of Marvel and DC books, approximately 1,100 items, all from the Silver Age, circa 1962-1967!
